Physician Assistant Program

Surgical exerciseA Physician Assistant (PA) is a medical professional who works as part of a team with a doctor. PA's perform physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret lab test, perform procedures, assist in surgery, provide patient education and counseling and make rounds in hospitals and nursing homes. All 50 states and the District of Columbia allow PA's to practice and prescribe medications.

In 2007 the PA program from UTHSCSA established a Laredo cohort of six students per training year. Both didactic and clinical training was offered from 2007-2011.

There are future plans to restore the Laredo cohort training program.
