About Us

Laredo CampusThe establishment of the University of Texas Health Science Center Regional Campus at Laredo demonstrates the firm commitment of the Health Science Center to partner with the Laredo and surrounding South Texas Region. The D. D. Hachar Building with its distinctive bell tower is the iconic facility of this campus that opened in 2002 to provide advanced health professional education and training programs and resources to Laredo and the South Texas region. The second building on the campus opened in 2007.

Our History

Since 1993, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio has been a strong educational partner for Laredo and surrounding communities. A number of educational programs were initiated with the establishment of the Mid Rio Grande Border Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in 1993. Programs designed to attract students into careers within the health professions as well as programs designed to improve the quality of health care in the community and educate the community about healthy living began with the AHEC and continued after the establishment of the Health Science Center at Laredo Regional Campus in 2002.

Our Mission

As a regional campus of the University of Texas Health Science at San Antonio, the campus offers students training opportunities in health careers through local instruction, community-based research, and distance education technology. Numerous outreach educational programs concentrate on fostering a healthy community. While focused on engaging local students in science education and research in order to steer enthusiastic students into the health professions, the campus is establishing itself as the beacon of graduate level health professions for this region.

As a regional campus of UT Health San Antonio, the Laredo campus' accreditation status is dependent on the continued accreditation of parent campus. UT Health San Antonio was last reviewed and reaffirmed in 2008. It's accreditation extends through 2018.
